Yummy Dal mix

Toor/arhar dal + masoor dal , cookes with tomatoes and tempered with cumin seeds and curry leaves.


3/4th cup toor dal and 1/4th cup masoor dal -wash and soak in warm water

2 chopped tomatoes

2 chopped green chillie

4 cloves of garlic minced

curry leaves

salt to taste

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

pinch of asafetida

1/2 teaspoon coriander powder

1/4th teaspoon red chilli powder

1 teaspoon oil

Tempering

1 tablespoon ghee

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

curry leaves

2 dry whole red chillies

In a cooker-add the tomatoes , garlic and green chillies together mix it well and cook it for some time. Then add the turmeric, coriander powder and asafetida and salt. Mix it all add 4-5 cups of water and the dal . Close the lid of the cooker after, 1 whistle put the gas on low heat and after 10 minutes switch the gas off . Mix the dal well and prepare a small pan for tempering.

Add ghee and then the cumin seeds , red chillies and curry leaves and pour this tempering on the dal. Serve with rice or roti.
